The Nigerian military’s Operation Hadin Kai has apprehended Lance Corporal Mubarak Yakubu for  suspected involvement in ammunition theft.

The soldier’s arrest, carried out by the 7 Division Military Police K9 Team during a routine search operation at the Borno express Terminal, marks a crucial step in efforts to combat insurgency and maintain security in the region.

According to Zagazola Makama, a reliable security source, Lance Corporal Yakubu was intercepted on Thursday, May 9th, 2024, following intelligence reports.

Upon thorough inspection, the soldier was found to be in possession of 756 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition and 4 x 36 Hand Grenade, cleverly concealed within a small bag of rice.

The discovery, shared by Makama via the official communication platform X (formerly Twitter), included accompanying images of the soldier alongside the recovered ammunition.

This revelation sheds light on the intricate methods employed by individuals involved in illegal arms trafficking and highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in the region.

As investigations into the incident unfold, Lance Corporal Yakubu remains in custody, pending further action by the military authorities.

The swift response by the 7 Division Military Police K9 Team underscores the commitment of Operation Hadin Kai to root out corruption and maintain discipline within its ranks.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the complexities associated with counterinsurgency operations in conflict-affected areas.

It underscores the need for continuous vigilance and enhanced security measures to prevent the proliferation of weapons and disrupt the activities of criminal elements operating within the region.

The Nigerian military’s resolve to uphold integrity and accountability remains unwavering, as demonstrated by the prompt apprehension of Lance Corporal Yakubu.

This decisive action sends a clear message that individuals found engaging in illegal activities will be held accountable, irrespective of their rank or affiliation within the armed forces.
