The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced a significant victory in the ongoing fight against insurgency, revealing that Nigerian troops have accomplished remarkable feats in just one week.

According to Major-General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, a total of 135 terrorists were neutralized, 182 suspects apprehended, and 140 hostages rescued during this period.

The statement issued by Gen. Buba highlighted the multifaceted achievements of the Nigerian troops, underscoring their relentless efforts to safeguard the nation’s security and protect its citizens.

In addition to combating terrorism, the troops also cracked down on other criminal activities, arresting 15 suspected oil thieves and recovering stolen petroleum products worth N731,448,262.00.

The recovered weaponry and ammunition further demonstrated the military’s effectiveness in dismantling terrorist networks and reducing their operational capabilities.

A total of 97 assorted weapons and 3,117 assorted ammunition were confiscated, dealing a significant blow to the arsenal of terrorist groups.

Among the recovered weapons were 47 AK-47 rifles, one PKM MG, and various locally fabricated firearms, highlighting the diverse arsenal employed by the insurgents.

Additionally, the troops seized explosives, grenades, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), further crippling the terrorists’ ability to launch attacks.

The successes extended beyond counter-terrorism operations, as troops in the Niger Delta region uncovered and destroyed 40 illegal refining sites, dismantling the infrastructure used for oil theft and illegal activities.

The recovery of stolen crude oil and illegally refined products, along with the confiscation of equipment and vehicles, dealt a severe blow to criminal syndicates operating in the area.

Gen. Buba emphasized the military’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace and security across Nigeria.

With the elimination of numerous terrorist leaders and the dismantling of their operational bases, the DHQ expressed confidence in the military’s strengthened position in the ongoing war against insurgency.

The remarkable achievements of the Nigerian troops underscored the government’s resolve to combat insecurity and protect the lives and property of its citizens.
