Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has attributed the abduction of students at Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, to what he described as internal sabotage.

The governor said  that preliminary investigations uncovered that CCTV cameras on the campus were deliberately switched off during the attack.

Governor Ododo made these revelations during a visit to the university campus to assess the security situation following the breach that led to the students’ abduction.

He vowed to ensure the safe return of the abducted students, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

Despite the installation of CCTV cameras in classrooms and the entire perimeter of the campus, Governor Ododo expressed dismay that all cameras were inactive during the attack, pointing to sabotage by internal collaborators.

He assured the university community that every necessary measure, including non-kinetic actions, has been initiated to secure the safe return of the abducted students.

Acknowledging the gallantry of security agencies in minimizing the impact of the attack, Governor Ododo commended their efforts and pledged to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

He stressed the importance of ongoing rescue efforts, assuring parents and students of concerted efforts to ensure the students’ safe return.

While providing reassurance to the university community, Governor Ododo disclosed plans for regular reviews of rescue operations as more information emerges from the investigation.

He urged calm among parents and students, emphasizing the government’s determination to prevent a recurrence of such attacks on the university campus and elsewhere in the state.

The abduction, which occurred on Thursday night, saw gunmen invade the campus and abduct several students and staff.
