The Kano State Government has initiated legal action against the Managing Director of Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV), Mustapha Adamu Indabawa, and Staff Officer Ibrahim M. Bello, over allegations of criminal conspiracy, misappropriation, and diversion of funds amounting to millions of naira.
The charges, encompassing seven counts, were filed by the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission under the authorization of the state’s Attorney General.
The charges detail various instances of alleged financial misconduct, including the conversion of funds intended for the ARTV from the Kano State consolidated Revenue Account into personal bank accounts.
Mustapha Adamu Indabawa, serving as the Managing Director of ARTV, stands accused of orchestrating the misappropriation of significant sums, purportedly diverted for personal gain.
The charges specifically cite transactions involving disbursements from accounts linked to the Accelerating Nutrition Result in Nigeria (ANRIN) initiative, where funds were allegedly redirected into personal accounts and used for unauthorized purposes.
The indictment accuses Indabawa and Bello of breaching trust and conspiring to unlawfully appropriate government funds, resulting in wrongful losses to the state and its citizens.
The allegations emerged following an investigation prompted by a petition against Mustapha Adamu Indabawa, revealing a pattern of financial irregularities within ARTV.
The Kano State anti-corruption commission, upon thorough scrutiny of the station’s financial records, deemed the evidence substantial enough to warrant legal action against the accused parties.
The charges filed against the defendants underscore the government’s commitment to combatting corruption and ensuring accountability in public institutions.
