The Nigerian Army has dismissed three soldiers found guilty of engaging in armed robbery and kidnapping.
The dismissed soldiers, LCPL Abdul Musa, CPL Innocent Okwoli, and CPL West Isaac, were apprehended by the police during a joint operation with civilians.
The soldiers, who were entrusted with upholding law and order, were discovered to be involved in a series of criminal activities, including robbing trucks and diverting valuable goods destined for warehouses.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that they were implicated in the kidnapping of drivers and other individuals. It is alleged that these illicit operations were conducted in collaboration with civilians.
Following their arrest, the soldiers were handed over to the army authorities for a thorough investigation.
Subsequently, they were reportedly subjected to a fair trial in accordance with the provisions of the Armed Forces Act Caps A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that upon being found guilty, the soldiers were swiftly dismissed from service.
Highlighting the severity of their crimes, military sources emphasized that the soldiers were habitual offenders, perpetrating acts of robbery and kidnapping with alarming frequency.
In adherence to due process, the discharged soldiers have been returned to the custody of the police for further necessary action.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that they will face prosecution for their involvement in the aforementioned offences.
A spokesperson for the Nigerian Army expressed firm condemnation of the soldiers’ actions, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to upholding integrity and discipline within its ranks.
He said “the soldiers were arrested by men of the Nigerian Police Force for the offence of armed robbery and kidnapping. After their arrest, the police handed them over to the army authorities for own investigation.
“During the course of investigation, it was observed that the soldiers were perpetual criminals who always robbed trucks and diverted goods being carried to a wearhouse where they do sell them.
“They also kidnapped these drivers and others, they always carry out these operations alongside some civilians.
“Furthermore, they were summarily tried and dismissed and were also handed over to the police as the offences they committed were pure civil related offences for further investigation and prosecution.”
