The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Ogun State Council, launched its 2024 Nurses Week with a resounding call for empowerment and recognition of the invaluable role nurses play in society.

der the theme “Our Nurses Our Future, the Economic Power of Care,” the week-long event commenced with Chairman Comrade Nurse, Adejoke Bello highlighting the significance of celebrating Nigeria’s nursing workforce.
In her address, Bello expressed gratitude to the association members for their unwavering dedication and emphasized the crucial role nurses play as the backbone of the healthcare system.
She stressed the importance of diligence, empathy, and kindness in nursing practice, while also calling attention to the pressing need for increased recruitment and improved welfare for nurses.
Addressing the gathering, former association president and event chairman, Comrade Nurse Abdul Rafiu Alani Adeniji, echoed Bello’s sentiments, advocating nurses’ empowerment to ensure a robust healthcare system.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Sodimu Jeminat Omotade, underscored the theme’s relevance, labeling nurses as advocates for universal rights and emphasizing the need for increased investment in nursing jobs.
Dr. Omotade highlighted the pivotal role of nurses in maintaining a healthy population, asserting that a nation’s economic prosperity is intricately linked to the well-being of its citizens.
She urged policymakers to prioritize budgetary allocations to the health sector and encouraged nurses to embrace professional development opportunities for global recognition.
