Labour Party Accuses Peter Obi Campaign Spokesperson Of Attempting To Hijack Party

The Labour Party finds itself embroiled in a heated controversy as accusations fly between party officials and Peter Obi’s campaign spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko.

The Julius Abure leadership of the party has leveled serious allegations against Tanko, accusing him of colluding with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to seize control of the party.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, on Friday, Tanko was accused of attempting to manipulate the party’s leadership for personal gain.

The statement pointed out Tanko’s history within the National Conscience Party, where he allegedly used his position as chairman and presidential candidate to engage in political bargaining rather than fostering genuine party growth.

Tanko’s recent actions, particularly his involvement in a meeting between Peter Obi and the NLC’s Political Commission, have raised concerns within the Labour Party.

While Tanko portrayed Obi’s visit to the LP Secretariat and subsequent meeting with the NLC as reconciliation efforts, the party sees it as an attempt to undermine its authority.

The Labour Party vehemently denied Tanko’s claims that Obi’s meetings were endorsed by the party’s leadership, asserting that Tanko does not have the authority to speak on behalf of Peter Obi or the party.

The statement condemned Tanko’s alleged dissemination of false information and warned him against using Obi’s name for personal agendas.

The Labour Party called out the NLC’s Political Commission for its role in the controversy, urging them to respect the rule of law and refrain from disruptive actions.

Despite the escalating tensions, the party reaffirmed its commitment to upholding democratic principles and maintaining integrity within its ranks.
