The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), located in Kwara State, has expelled a 100-level student from the Department of Information Technology within the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences.
The student, identified as Olanrewaju Abdulkabir Abdulkadri, was expelled for allegedly demanding ransom from the parents of his missing colleague in exchange for their child’s safe return.
The case came to light following an official statement published in the university’s weekly bulletin, which was signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun.
The bulletin detailed the severity of the allegations against Abdulkadri, who had used the crisis of his missing colleague to exploit the situation for financial gain.
This unethical and criminal behavior led the university administration to take swift and decisive action.
The university underscored its commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and a safe environment for all students.
The expulsion serves as a stern warning to the student body about the consequences of engaging in criminal activities or conduct unbecoming of a student of UNILORIN.
In a related disciplinary action, the university also rusticated Segun Michael Oyewole, a 400-level student from the Department of Counsellor Education in the Faculty of Education.
Oyewole was rusticated for one academic session after being found guilty of physically assaulting a fellow female student.
This punishment highlights the university’s zero-tolerance policy towards violence and harassment within its community.
These actions by the university administration reflect a broader commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the safety and well-being of its students.
By addressing these serious infractions with appropriate disciplinary measures, UNILORIN aims to foster a campus environment grounded in respect, integrity, and accountability.
UNILORIN’s decisive actions in these cases illustrate its proactive stance in dealing with student misconduct.
The university remains steadfast in its mission to provide a secure and supportive academic environment, emphasizing that such behaviours will not be tolerated and will be met with strict penalties to deter future occurrences.
