In a remarkable display of courage and quick thinking, Nigerian Army Captain J.O. Abalaka has  freed himself and other hostages from a kidnapping gang in Kogi State.

The dramatic incident unfolded along the Ekpoma/Okene/Lokoja Road, as Captain Abalaka was en route to his new assignment at the operational headquarters of the Maiduguri Command in Borno State.

Captain Abalaka, identified by his service number N/15198, was travelling in his Toyota Corolla, accompanied by his dog, when he was intercepted and abducted by armed gunmen.

The abduction occurred while he was transitioning from the 29 Battalion in Port Harcourt to his new post.

The kidnappers also seized several other travelers during the ambush, creating a tense and dangerous situation.

Despite being outnumbered and in a highly precarious position, Captain Abalaka exhibited extraordinary bravery.

According to a military signal, the officer managed to disarm one of the kidnappers who was armed with an AK-47.

Seizing the opportunity, he engaged the remaining gang members in a fierce confrontation.

Captain Abalaka’s swift and decisive actions led to the liberation of all the captives, including himself and his dog.

His efforts not only ensured their safety but also demonstrated exceptional military skill and presence of mind under extreme pressure.

The successful escape also resulted in the recovery of several weapons from the kidnappers, including a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, one magazine, and five 9mm rounds of ammunition.
