Fayose Denies Leaving PDP, Cautions Against Politics Of Bitterness

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has dismissed rumours that he has defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Monday in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, Fayose emphatically stated that he would never join the APC and urged members of the PDP to stop maligning his character.

During his address to supporters, Fayose stressed the importance of unity within the PDP to ensure success in the forthcoming governorship election.

He called on party members to close ranks, embrace peace, and discourage divisions and factions.

“I am beginning campaigns ahead of the congresses in two local government areas. I will go to all local government areas and I will support them with logistics for the election of our party.

“ I am not looking for opposition. If you say Fayose does not matter, wait; during the election you will see,” Fayose declared.

Fayose emphasized the need for the PDP to avoid internal conflicts and work collectively to win elections.

“Let there be no Biodun Olujimi, Ayodele Fayose, Bisi Kolawole, or Duro Faseyi factions in PDP. Let us work for peace to be able to win elections in the state,” he said.

Addressing the rumor of an appointment from Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC, Fayose debunked the claims, asserting that his commitment remains with the PDP. He noted that Ekiti, as a PDP state, must be reclaimed from the APC’s governance.

“I have come to tell you that the PDP must not die in Ekiti State. I want you to have peace; please don’t destroy my personality,” he appealed.

Despite his political rivalry, Fayose acknowledged the work done by Governor Oyebanji and appreciated his efforts towards the state’s development.

“I feel satisfied with the works that Governor Oyebanji has done so far in the state. BAO is a humble governor. Thirteen times, he has visited me in Lagos to greet me.

“We discussed the progress and development of the state. I have to respect him; that has nothing to do with politics. He is the only governor that has brought all governors in the state together,” Fayose remarked.

However, Fayose made it clear that this mutual respect does not affect his political stance.

“When it is time for the election, we will confront him. I am a landmark governor in Ekiti State. We supported Asiwaju in the last presidential election because he is a Yoruba man, and it’s time for our Presidency,” he said.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the  leadership crisis within the Ekiti State PDP, which has been marked by divisions between factions led by Fayose and Senator Biodun Olujimi, has fueled recent speculation about Fayose’s political loyalty.
