Olakunlehin Health Controversy: You Lack Power To Enthrone Olubadan, Ladoja Tells Makinde

Former Governor of Oyo State and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rasheed Ladoja, has criticised Governor Seyi Makinde over his remarks concerning the health status of the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

Ladoja insists that Makinde’s comments on the enthronement process were inappropriate and misinformed.

Governor Makinde, during the state burial ceremony for the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, two Saturdays ago, stated that Olakulehin would be enthroned when he is deemed fit for the role.

However, Ladoja countered this assertion, emphasizing that the power to enthrone the Olubadan lies with the people of Ibadanland, not the governor.

Speaking to journalists at his Bodija, Ibadan residence, Ladoja clarified the governor’s role in the enthronement process.

He stated that while the governor has the authority to present the staff of office and the instrument of office to the Olubadan-designate, he does not have the power to enthrone him.

“The role of the government is just to give the staff of office and instrument of office to the Olubadan-designate,” Ladoja affirmed.

Ladoja also addressed the governor’s comments regarding the health of Olakulehin.

He acknowledged that the governor might have access to the medical records of the Olubadan-designate by sending doctors to assess his health or using artificial intelligence.

Despite this, Ladoja stressed that the decision to enthrone Olakulehin is not within the governor’s purview.

“I don’t have any problem if the governor refuses to give him the staff of office or instrument of office, but he is not the one to enthrone him,” he stated.

Acknowledging Olakulehin’s advanced age, Ladoja remarked, “Olakulehin is an aged man, we did not expect him to still be acting like a youth.”
