The Yewa Youth Association (YYA) hosted a landmark dialogue with lawmakers from four local government areas in Yewaland, marking a significant step towards enhanced transparency, accountability, and youth empowerment.

The event, titled “Youth-Legislators Dialogue,” was held on Saturday, June 22, at ASUP Hall, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun State, under the theme “365-Day Stewardship and Youth Dialogue: A Conversation with Yewa 10th National and State Legislators.”

The dialogue aimed to bring together the legislative representatives of Yewaland for the first time, fostering a direct and open exchange between the youth and their elected officials.

This initiative symbolises a new era of cooperation and active engagement in the region.

In his opening remarks, Abduljabar Ayelaagbe, President of the Yewa Youth Association, disclosed  the achievements of the youth body and the significance of the dialogue.

He stated, “the objective of this dialogue is to appreciate our legislators and encourage them to explore, learn, and collaborate on the vital issues that shape Yewaland and our world today.”

He reiterated the association’s commitment to continuous engagement with lawmakers and highlighted the youth’s potential in shaping the future of Yewaland.

Prof. Rahmon Bello, Chairman of the Yewa People Development Council (YPDC) and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, commended the YYA for their dedication and the successful execution of the event.

He noted that the dialogue was an opportunity to celebrate the legislators and discuss the challenges facing Yewaland.

Lawmakers present at the event, including Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, and Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, as well as state legislators Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju Awoso, Hon. Bisi Oyedele, and Hon. Wahab Haruna, presented their stewardship reports, highlighting key projects and progress made in various sectors over the past year.

A highlight of the event was the prize presentation to secondary school students who participated in an essay competition themed “Yewaland of My Dream.”

The competition received an overwhelming response, with students presenting their visions for the future of Yewaland.

Winners were awarded cash prizes and educational materials, acknowledging their insightful and inspiring contributions.

The event saw the attendance of numerous distinguished guests and royal fathers from across Yewa towns, including Oba J.O. Adesiyan, Onihunbo of Ihunbo Yewa; Oba M.A. Awode, Ololo of Ijofin Yewa; and Oba J.A. Ajani, Opo of Idosemo Yewa.

The Council of Baales was also well-represented, with key figures such as Chief Babatunde Yinusa and Chief Ibrahim Ajisafe in attendance.

Prominent figures from the educational and governmental sectors were also present, including Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, Hon. Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Ogun State; Hon. Babatunde Odunayo Olaotan, Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor; Dr. Adeoye Oyedeji, Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic; and Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, Rector of Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa.

The Youth-Legislators Dialogue represents a milestone for Yewaland, setting a new precedent for youth engagement in governance.

The successful interaction between the youth and their representatives is expected to foster a stronger, more collaborative community, working towards the overall development of Yewaland.

This event not only highlighted the accomplishments of the past year but also laid the groundwork for future initiatives, ensuring that the youth of Yewaland remain actively involved in the region’s governance and development
