    Commonwealth Youth Organization Joins Forces Against Drug Abuse In Ogun

    The Commonwealth Youth Organization of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, led by Comrade Ojo Emmanuel, united with several youth-led organizations to mark this year  International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in th  state .

     This global event, themed “The Evidence is Clear; Invest in Prevention,” aims to bolster international cooperation and action towards eliminating drug abuse and illicit trafficking worldwide.

    PLATFORM TIMES gathered that in Ogun State, the commemoration kicked off with an awareness campaign commencing from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s office in Ibara, Abeokuta, extending through various parts of the city. 

    PLATFORM TIMES reports that the aim was  to fostering awareness about the perils of drug abuse, endorsing evidence-based prevention and treatment strategies, advocating  policies that tackle the root causes of substance misuse, and promoting unity against illicit trafficking and organized crime.

    Comrade Ojo Emmanuel, speaking on behalf of the Commonwealth Youth Organization, said  the pivotal role of youth in combating drug abuse within local communities.

     He highlighted the imperative for educational initiatives that empower young people with knowledge about the dangers of drugs, as well as the importance of supportive interventions and policy frameworks that can effectively curb the prevalence of drug-related issues.

    The event garnered participation from a diverse array of stakeholders, including government representatives, civil society organizations, and concerned citizens, all rallying together to reinforce the message of prevention and solidarity against drug abuse.

     PLATFORM TIMES reports that the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking served as a poignant reminder of the collective responsibility shared by communities and individuals alike in safeguarding public health and promoting social well-being amidst the challenges posed by substance abuse and trafficking.
