No fewer than 25 passengers were confirmed dead following a trailer accident at the Dangwaro flyover along the Kano-Zaria Road.

The ill-fated trailer was reportedly conveying 90 passengers when it crashed on Monday.

Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the devastating accident, which adds to a grim series of road mishaps in the region.

Just three days earlier, another trailer accident claimed the lives of 15 worshippers in Imawa town, Kura Local Government Area, also along the Kano-Zaria road.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC suggest that the crash was caused by over speeding, resulting in the driver losing control of the trailer.

The impact of the crash was catastrophic, leading to significant loss of life and numerous injuries.

Kano Sector Commander of the FRSC, CC Ibrahim Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, provided further details on the aftermath.

He revealed that, in addition to the 25 fatalities, about 53 other passengers sustained injuries of varying degrees, while 12 were rescued unhurt.

Commander Abdullahi highlighted the dangers of over speeding and the reckless practice of transporting animals, goods, and human beings together in trailers.

He emphasised that such practices are not only risky but also constitute a violation of traffic regulations.

In the wake of the accident, rescue efforts were swift and coordinated.

The FRSC, in collaboration with the Nigerian Police and other emergency response agencies, transported the victims to Murtala Specialist Hospital in Kano for urgent medical attention.

In response to the recurring accidents, the FRSC has called on all road users to strictly adhere to traffic laws and regulations.

The agency underscored the importance of increased enforcement of these regulations and the need for extensive education on road safety to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The FRSC continues to advocate for safer transportation practices and the elimination of dangerous driving habits that put countless lives at risk.
