Reverend Isaac Umurie, an esteemed Anglican bishop, met a tragic end at the hands of his son, Ufuoma, in Okpare town, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The horrific incident unfolded on Wednesday morning, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Eyewitnesses and community sources reveal that the gruesome attack occurred while Reverend Umurie was asleep.

Ufuoma, described by neighbours as mentally unstable, allegedly launched a vicious assault on his father, hacking him multiple times with a machete.

The brutal attack resulted in severe mutilation of the bishop’s skull and other parts of his body.

The late bishop’s wife and mother narrowly escaped the attack, managing to flee the scene and evade a similar fate.

Their narrow escape has only added to the tragedy’s emotional weight, as the community grapples with the sudden loss of a revered religious leader.

The local police, stationed at the Otu-Jeremi divisional headquarters, promptly arrested Ufuoma following the incident.

He is currently in custody, and authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted.

Delta State Police spokesperson, Edafe Bright, confirmed the arrest and stated that Ufuoma would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
