An Osun State High Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Tuesday sentenced three men to death by hanging for the murder of a corps member, Mukaila Adebayo.

The convicted individuals, Jelili Kareem, a herbal seller; Oludayo Oludele, a commercial motorcyclist; and Muyiwa Awodeji, an electrician, committed the offence during a robbery operation in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that the  court found them guilty of conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder, following a series of hearings that began on October 8, 2020.

According to court records, the tragic incident occurred on January 28, 2020, in the Omo West area of Osogbo.

The convicts allegedly conspired to rob Adebayo, who was serving as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member at the time.

Prosecutor Muyiwa Ogunleye from the Ministry of Justice told the court that the   crimes they committed were deemed in violation of Sections 316, 319, and 324 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap.34, Vol. 2, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

During the trial, he presented compelling evidence, including testimony from Adebayo’s daughter, who witnessed the brutal attack.

Justice Adedapo Adeniji, presiding over the case, ruled that the prosecutor  had sufficiently proven the guilt of Kareem, Oludele, and Awodeji.

In his judgmental, Justice Adedapo Adeniji, held that the prosecution had proven that the defendants committed the crime and subsequently convicted three of them for murder and armed robbery.

Adeniji thereafter sentenced Kareem, Oludele and Awodeji to death by hanging.
