Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar Congratulates New Olubadan On Coronation

The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria (NTRCN),  Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the new Olubadan of Ibadan Land, Oba Owolabi Olakunlehin.

The message followed the  coronation and the presentation of the Staff of Office by the Governor of Oyo State,  Seyi Makinde, on Friday, July 12, 2024.

In a statement released by the Sultan’s media team on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Sultan Abubakar, who also serves as the President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), emphasized the historical and strategic significance of Ibadan.

 He described Ibadan as a self-regulated kingdom known for its historical warriors and hospitable people, highlighting the necessity of successive royal leadership to sustain its growth and development. 

He expressed his conviction that Oba Olakunlehin is the right choice for the throne at this time.

The Sultan praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering respect for traditional institutions, noting that the governor’s actions are always aligned with the traditions and capable of earning the people’s trust. 

He commended the governor for ensuring that the coronation was conducted in a manner that reflects the deep cultural heritage of Ibadan.

Sultan Abubakar also took the opportunity to salute the people of Ibadan Land on the occasion of their new Oba’s coronation. 

He reiterated his commitment to using his chairmanship of the NTRCN, co-chaired by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan, to foster peace, unity, harmony, and progress among Nigerians of various religious and ethnic backgrounds.

In his message to the new Olubadan, the Sultan said, “On behalf of myself, the Usmaniyyah Throne of Sokoto Caliphate, and all Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, I wish you a healthy and very impactful reign in life.”
