The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has praised the Federal Government’s strides in agricultural mechanisation and its ongoing efforts to enhance food production nationwide.
This commendation came from the institution’s Governing Council, led by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman,Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi Odundun IV, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Head, Olasunkanmi Olajide.
Speaking on behalf of the University, the 15th Aragbiji disclosed FUNAAB’s readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government to advance these significant initiatives.
Highlighting recent developments, the monarch noted that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the acquisition of 2,000 tractors, 4,000 disc ploughs, and 1,200 tractor-trailers as part of the National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme (NAMP).
This move aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s emergency declaration on food security, aimed at boosting farming activities and strengthening the nation’s food security.
The monarch stressed that these efforts resonate with FUNAAB’s mandate of teaching, research, and extension services, as well as its broader goals of fostering agricultural development and innovation.
“FUNAAB stands ready to partner with the Federal Government in these critical agricultural initiatives.
“ Our University is well-equipped with the expertise and resources to support and enhance these programmes, ultimately contributing to the nation’s food security and agricultural sustainability,” he said.
The monarch, who also serves as FUNAAB’s 8th Pro-Chancellor, reiterated the University’s commitment to playing a pivotal role in the agricultural sector.
He highlighted FUNAAB’s capacity to leverage its academic, research, and community engagement capabilities to support national development goals.
