The Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofar-Mata, on Wednesday, lost three of his family members to a devastating early morning fire outbreak at his residence in Kofar-Mata quarters, Kano metropolis.

The tragic incident, which occurred while the family members were asleep, claimed the lives of the commissioner’s daughter, Maimuna, his elder sister, Khadija, and a close relative, Juwairiyya.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the  commissioner narrowly escaped the disaster, but his grief is immeasurable.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire caused significant destruction to the residence, reducing several valuables to ashes.

However, the exact cause of the inferno and the full extent of the damage remain undetermined, as no official report has been released yet.

When contacted, the State Fire Service spokesperson, Abdullahi Saminu, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

“The level of damage and cause of the inferno could not be ascertained immediately,” Saminu said.

In a heartfelt message posted on his verified social media handle, Dr. Kofar-Mata expressed profound sorrow over the loss of his loved ones.

He wrote, “Unto Allah, we came and to him we shall return. I mourn the loss of my daughter Maimuna (Islam), my senior sister, Hajiya Khadija, and my brother’s wife, Juwairiyya, who all perished in the fire accident this morning.”

The funeral prayers for the deceased were conducted at 11 a.m. at Kofar-Mata quarters in Kano City, drawing a large crowd of mourners who came to pay their last respects and support the bereaved commissioner during this difficult time.
