A  police sergeant has shot his father to death in the Tudu area of the Maduganari community, located behind the Borno State Police Command headquarters in Maiduguri.

The officer, identified as Sergeant Linus Wadzani, reportedly fired multiple shots at his father, resulting in his death.

Wadzani, who serves with Mopol 6 in Maiduguri, is currently attached as a security detail at the Borno State House of Assembly.

During a press briefing at the Borno State Police Command Headquarters on Monday, it was disclosed that the deceased was a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police.

He had previously served at the state police command with the Mounted Unit.

The police spokesperson narrated that the tragic event occurred on Sunday around 4:30 pm when Sergeant Linus returned home and engaged in a heated argument with his father.

The argument escalated, leading Linus to shoot to death his father multiple times with an AK-47 rifle.

Upon receiving a distress call, a police patrol team quickly responded and brought the situation under control.

Upon arrival at the scene, the officers found the lifeless body of the retired police officer, identified as Wadzani Natsiri.

A family member informed the police that no one else was home at the time of the incident, leaving no witnesses to the altercation.

This lack of eyewitnesses has complicated efforts to piece together the events that led to the shooting.

During the investigation, Sergeant Linus confessed to the crime, stating that he was under the influence of alcohol and other substances at the time of the shooting.

This admission has prompted further inquiries into his mental and emotional state.

The police spokesperson revealed that a forensic team has been assembled to collect blood samples from Sergeant Linus for analysis, aiming to determine his mental status at the time of the incident.

The forensic examination will play a crucial role in understanding the factors that contributed to this tragic event.

He added that an official investigation into the homicide has been launched, with authorities seeking to uncover more details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting

The Borno State Police Command has assured the public that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.

The command also expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and promised to provide support during this difficult time.
