The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of Magaji Yellow, a suspect wanted in connection with the murder of his brother, Gausu Umar Sadam, six years ago.

The arrest was made following a directive from the State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, who ordered a special squad to apprehend the fugitive.

Magaji Yellow, a resident of Kunya village in Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State, had been on the run since August 10, 2018, after conspiring with Rabiu Sarki Lots and Nasiru Adamu Namade to kill his brother.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that the  motive behind the murder was a debt of N270,000 that Yellow owed to Sadam.

It was gathered that the  debt had been given to Yellow without interest to help him start a business.

“On the fateful day, the conspirators lured Sadam to Wailari Quarters in Minjibir under the pretence of repaying the debt.

“Once there, they attacked him with dangerous weapons, inflicting fatal injuries, including cutting his leg vein.

“Despite being rushed to the hospital, Sadam succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

“The police quickly apprehended Rabiu Sarki Lots and Nasiru Adamu Namade, who were charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

“However, Yellow managed to evade capture and had been at large since the incident.”

According to the Kano Police Command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Yellow was finally apprehended on July 15, 2024, after nearly six years of evading justice.

Kiyawa said  the arrest was made possible through sustained follow-up and intelligence-led operations by the police.

He added that upon his arrest, Yellow confessed to his role in the murder, admitting that they had planned the attack to avoid repaying the debt.

Yellow has been charged and is currently facing prosecution at Magistrate Court Number 34 Nomand-sland in Kano.

The Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, reaffirmed the command’s dedication to ensuring justice and maintaining law and order in the state.

He emphasised that the police would continue to protect lives and property and bring perpetrators of crimes to justice.
