The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a substantial budget of N1.44 trillion for the execution of various road projects in Nigeria including Abeokuta-Iboro-,Ilara road.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the decision was made during a recent FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who briefed the press after the council meeting.
He detailed the specific projects and the companies awarded the contracts, highlighting the government’s focus on critical road infrastructure in different regions.
PLATFORM TIMES further gathered that the federal govern.ent has approved ; Abeokuta-Iboro-Ilaro Road, Ogun State: A contract worth N57 billion has been awarded to Strabic Construction for the rehabilitation of this vital road, which is expected to enhance regional connectivity and boost economic activities in Ogun State.
Also, Mubi to Maiduguri Road, Section Three: This project, valued at N89 billion, is part of the NNPC road infrastructure initiative and has been awarded to MESSRS Decency Associates Limited. The project aims to improve access and safety along this crucial route.
Others are : Mubi to Maiduguri Road, Section Two: Initially left unawarded, this section has now been approved for re-procurement with a budget of N67 billion.
The decision was influenced by the Borno State Governor’s request, as the stretch is in dire need of rehabilitation. The project will utilize rigid pavement technology to ensure durability.
Natalla-Buru Road, Kano State: Although currently stepped down due to funding constraints, this project remains on the agenda, with potential collaboration with the National Assembly to secure necessary funds.
Benin-Akure-Ilesha Road: A significant undertaking, this 300km road project (150km each way) has been awarded to HiTech Construction. The project, costing N525 billion, will employ concrete pavements, a choice made for its long-term resilience.
Benin-Akure Road, Section Two: Spanning 66km, this section has been dualized and awarded to HiTech Construction for N286 billion. The project is part of the supplementary budget, reflecting the government’s strategic prioritization of infrastructure
Angingali-Udobi-Udona-Umo-Uwana-Ubalaka Road, Imo State: An NNPC project, this road’s budget has been reviewed and increased from N14 billion to N26.46 billion, reflecting the scope of work required.
Ojo-Odum-Okuku Road, Benue State, This project has been temporarily stepped down for further review and will be reconsidered in a subsequent FEC meeting.
Aba-Owerri Road, Abia State: The rehabilitation of this vital road, particularly the NNPC depot expressway, has been awarded to Rudo Nigeria Limited for N21 billion, aimed at enhancing transportation efficiency in the region.
Odukpani Itu-Ikot-Ekpene Road, Cross Rivers State: Handled by CCECC, this project has seen its budget increased from N50 billion to N79 billion due to challenging terrain, necessitating reinforced concrete pavement.
Enugu-Port Harcourt Road: Another significant project by CCECC, the rehabilitation of this road, which began four years ago, is set to continue with renewed focus and resources.
Umahi emphasised the importance of these projects in boosting economic growth, reducing travel time, and improving safety for road users. He noted that while some projects were stepped down for funding or logistical reasons, the government’s commitment to infrastructure development remains unwavering.
