A tragic incident occurred on Thursday in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, when an immigration officer accidentally shot himself while attempting to manage a large-scale protest.
The officer, whose identity remains undisclosed, was part of a joint security task force deployed to maintain order during the demonstration.

The incident happened at the Bulumkutu rail junction, a key location where protesters had gathered to voice their grievances against the government’s handling of several critical issues.

According to eyewitnesses, the officer was monitoring the crowd when his firearm accidentally discharged, resulting in a gunshot wound to his leg.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Immediate medical assistance was provided, and the officer was quickly transported to a local hospital.
