Protesters on Thursday defied an ex-parte order obtained by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, which sought to restrict the #EndBadGovernance protests to four designated locations within Ogun State.
Demonstrators, led by activist Lateef Adeshina, took to the streets of Abeokuta to voice their discontent with the current economic situation in Nigeria.
The Ogun State government had previously approached the State High Court to limit the activities of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters.
The court, upon reviewing the application filed by the State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), and presided over by Justice O. Ogunfowora, granted the order.
The ruling restricted protests to the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ansar-ud-Deen Comprehensive High School in Ota, Remo Divisional High School in Sagamu, and Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.
The court also set the permissible protest hours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Despite this order, protesters marched through Kuto, Oke-Ilewo, and concluded their demonstration at Panseke.
PLATFORM TIMES, which covered the protest, reported that the demonstrators addressed the press under the bridge at Panseke, condemning both President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun for what they described as bad governance.
Adeshina, speaking at the event, lamented the dire economic conditions facing many Nigerians.
“Many Nigerians are hungry due to the bad governance by Tinubu,” he said.
He further criticised the government’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, which he claimed had exacerbated the suffering of citizens by increasing living costs.
The protesters expressed their frustration and anger throughout the march, chanting slogans and carrying placards denouncing the government.
Adeshina accused both Tinubu and Abiodun of “starving us and sabotaging our future.”
He also pledged that the protests would continue the following day.
When questioned about other youths who had reportedly condemned the protests, Adeshina dismissed them as government agents.
“Those ones are not my colleagues. They have collected N5,000. They are paid agents of the government. They are not comrades,” he asserted.
Throughout the demonstration, policemen were seen providing security for the protesters, ensuring that the event remained peaceful
