The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) are set to participate in the 2024 Migration Dialogue, organized by the Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM).
This event, aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of journalists and other professionals involved in migration matters, is scheduled to take place virtually via Zoom on Saturday, August 10th, with participants from several countries expected to attend.
Highlighting the event will be Paola Pace, the Deputy Chief of Mission for IOM Nigeria, who will deliver a keynote address titled “Migration Trends: Threats and Opportunities.” In addition, NAPTIP will present its strategies and experiences in combating human trafficking, sharing vital insights with attendees.
Dr. Ajibola Abayomi, President of JIFORM, expressed enthusiasm about the forthcoming dialogue.
“We are pleased to have reputable speakers from the IOM and NAPTIP working with us to expand the frontiers of migration knowledge.
This dialogue is beyond a mere meeting; it is an opportunity for us to widen our network with various professionals on the global stage and to further update participants on global best practices,” he stated.
Dr. Abayomi emphasized the dual nature of migration, acknowledging both its challenges and opportunities.
“Both the ills and prospects of migration are realities of life that must be confronted with the right attitude. This platform is open and free for all those who seek the right choices available in the migration space within the ambit of the law,” he added.
JIFORM, a non-profit organization registered in 2019, consists of over 300 journalists and volunteers worldwide, with its headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria.
The organization has been at the forefront of migration discourse, facilitating numerous summits and conferences. Notable among these are the maiden African Migration Summit in partnership with the Nekotech Center of Excellence in Accra, Ghana, in 2021, and the West African Media Migration Summit in Togo the same year.
Additionally, JIFORM organized an Intercontinental Migration Summit in collaboration with Medgar Evers College, City University, Brooklyn, New York, from November 2-4, 2022, and held its 3rd and 4th Migration Summits in Canada in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
The annual migration conference for Nigerian journalists in 2023 also stands out as a key achievement.
