A Delta State High Court sitting in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, has sentenced two men, Mr. Bright Ossai and Mr. Izagwu Obodo, to die by hanging after being found guilty of armed robbery and murder, respectively.

In a case that gripped the community, Mr. Bright Ossai was convicted of robbing one Mr. Hycent Abandy of his Denstar motorcycle while armed with a gun at Owessi Street, Kwale.

According to court proceedings, Ossai was apprehended at the scene after Mr. Abandy raised an alarm that drew the attention of nearby residents.

The police, responding swiftly to the scene, rescued the victim and successfully recovered the firearm used in the robbery.

Further investigations revealed that Ossai had previously robbed another motorcycle, which he sold to one Mr. Ebele Pius.

The court, presided over by Justice F. O. Enenmo, heard testimonies from two witnesses for the prosecution, while the defendant, Ossai, testified in his defense but did not call any witnesses.

Following the trial, Justice Enenmo sentenced Ossai to death by hanging for the armed robbery, while Mr. Pius, who purchased the stolen motorcycle, was sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labor or a fine of N500,000.

In a separate case, also presided over by Justice Enenmo, Mr. Izagwu Obodo was found guilty of the murder of Mr. Nonso Dibia.

The incident, which occurred on August 21, 2021, involved Obodo shooting Dibia with a gun, resulting in his death.

The prosecution, led by C. O. Onoberhie-Oberuomo, presented three witnesses and various exhibits to support their case. Obodo, like Ossai, testified in his defense but did not present any witnesses.

After reviewing the evidence, Justice Enenmo pronounced Obodo guilty of murder and sentenced him to die by hanging.
