Zamfara State deputy governor, Mani Malan Mummuni, has assessed the level of damages caused by floods in some communities in Gummi Local Government Area of the state.

Mummuni expressed shock over the level of destruction as a result of the heavy rainfall that led to the flooding last week, describing it as unimaginable and unfortunate.

At Gummi town, the deputy governor was told that 1,926 houses were destroyed and 2,765 households were affected, while 475 houses were submerged in Gyari community, with 304 households affected.

In Falale village, 452 houses were destroyed, while 375 houses were submerged in Barfoki village and 274 households were affected by the flood.

At Uyalenge village, 403 houses were destroyed and 272 households were seriously affected by flood.

In Kurfa village, 225 houses were destroyed, affecting 172 households, while at Gamo, 271 houses were destroyed and 181 households displaced.

Mani further stated that the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency, ZEMA, and a team of experts were earlier sent for assessment of the affected communities.

He said that the state would not treat the issue of flooding with a mere wave of hand, assuring that the government would assist the flood victims.
