The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted a series of airstrikes that killed five key Boko Haram commanders and 35 fighters in Borno State.

The operations, carried out under the aegis of Operation Hadin Kai, took place in the Arina area of Southern Tumbuns, known to be a stronghold for the terrorists.

NAF spokesperson, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the successful mission to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.

He revealed that the strikes were launched after intelligence reports indicated that the terrorists had clandestinely migrated to the area from neighboring locations.

“The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai executed an air interdiction mission on August 16 in Arina, Southern Tumbuns, Borno State, following credible intelligence,” Gabkwet stated.

He noted that the intelligence gathered was corroborated by further surveillance missions conducted on August 12 and 15, which identified a high concentration of terrorists and concealed structures in the area.

The targeted airstrikes were reported to have resulted in the elimination of several terrorists and the destruction of critical assets, including vehicles, water vessels, and a suspected medical dispensary.

The names of the eliminated commanders include Munzir Arika, Sani Dilla (Dan Hausawan Jubillaram), Ameer Modu, Dan Fulani Fari Fari, and Bakoura Arina Chiki.

“This operation has significantly degraded the operational capacity of the few remaining terrorists in the region,” Gabkwet added, stressing that the mission underscores NAF’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring peace and security in the Northeast.
