The Council for the Regulation of Engineering, COREN, has reiterated its commitment with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to a robust partnership aimed at preventing engineering failures, particularly building collapses in Nigeria.
President of COREN, Prof. Sadiq Abubakar, said this when he led a delegation to meet with ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Aliyu, on Thursday in Abuja to review their 2014 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Abubakar stressed the need to update the MoU to reflect current realities, including the amendment of COREN’s Act in 2018, Nigeria’s accession to international accords, and recent incidents of building collapse and infrastructure failures.
He highlighted COREN’s efforts to enforce engineering standards and hold culpable individuals accountable.
ICPC Chairman, Aliyu expressed his support for the partnership, citing the crucial role of engineering in national growth and development.
He emphasised the need to tackle engineering failure and promote accountability and integrity.
Aliyu tasked COREN with curbing cybercrimes in the ICT sector and announced that COREN would be involved in vetting public projects to ensure they meet standard requirements.
