The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, has screened and confirmed eight nominees for the positions of chairman and members of the Rivers State Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP.
This decision follows a request from Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the House to review and approve the nominees, as presented by factional Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo on Friday on the floor of the House.

The confirmed nominees are Barrister Lawrence Oko-Jaja as Chairman, along with Dr. Ernest Ibekwe Ekwe, Dr. Mina Ogbanga, Engr. Iseleye Amacree, Engr. Adokiye Oyagiri, Engr. Gift Alex-Hart, Mrs Grace Oraronu, and Barrister Selinah Amonieah.

Fubara’s letter to the House reads, “Request for screening and confirmation of the members of the Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement: Pursuant to the provisions of Section 1, Sub-Section 4 of the Rivers State Public Procurement Law No. 4 of 2008.

“It is my pleasure to forward the underlisted nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as members of the Board of Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement.”
In his remarks, Oko-Jumbo emphasized that the nominees’ diverse backgrounds and extensive experience will contribute to creating a more efficient and effective bureau for the state’s benefit.

He confirmed the nominees through a voice vote and urged them to ensure probity, accountability, and transparency to align with existing government policies.

With the confirmation, the Speaker, Oko-Jumbo, directed the Clerk, Dr G. M. Gillis-West, to convey the resolution of the House to Governor Fubara, for possible swearing-in as members of the Board of Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement.

The House, thereafter, adjourned the sitting to Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
