Aremu Akinsanya, the father of 17-year-old Habeebah Akinsanya, has recounted the tragic discovery of his daughter’s lifeless body in a bush, three days after she was reportedly kidnapped in the Mile 6 community, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Aremu, a member of the So-Safe Corps, narrated to journalists how he led a search party that included local hunters, members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), and his colleagues in the So-Safe Corps.
He lamented that despite using a tracker that initially misled them to an area in Ogbe, Abeokuta, the search party eventually found Habeebah’s body in Obasha bush.
The grieving father who said he grew up in the Mile 6 area, shared how his wife’s intuition guided the final search efforts.
“When I got home after the failed search in Ogbe, my wife told me her prayers were pointing to our daughter being nearby. Although I was skeptical, knowing the area well, I decided to reinforce the search,” Aremu explained.
Aremu said with the support of his superior, Commander Ganzalo, and permission from the Divisional Police Officer of Kemta, the search resumed.
He described the harrowing moment he found his daughter’s body,saying, her hands and legs bound, her face covered, and signs of strangulation evident.
He said he found a Point of Sale (POS) device beside her daughter’s body .
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Habeebah operated POS before she was taken away by the kidnappers.
“I had sent the money as instructed,” Aremu said, his voice heavy with emotion.
“They took all the money in her bag, and yet, they killed her.”
The abduction, which occurred on Friday, had plunged the family into turmoil.
Habeebah, a student at Lisabi Grammar School in Abeokuta, was preparing to enter her final year of secondary school.
A source said the kidnappers reportedly contacted her father soon after the abduction, demanding a ransom of N1 million, which he allegedly transferred to an Opay account provided by them.
Despite complying with their demands, Aremu’s worst fears were confirmed when he was instructed to pick up his daughter near Obasha, a few kilometers from the OGTV/Mile 6 area.
Upon arrival on Sunday morning, he was met with the horrifying sight of his daughter’s mutilated body, covered in soldier ants and bearing multiple machete wounds.
Habeebah, who would have turned 17 in October, was being prepared for burial as of the time of this report, her body severely mutilated by the vicious attack.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Mile 6 community, leaving residents in deep mourning and raising serious concerns about the safety and security in the area.
PLATFORM TIMES findings showed that this tragic event marks the third such incident in the community this year.
It was gathered that earlier in the year, a man reportedly killed his brother’s children in Adebayo village, and a barber was also murdered under similar circumstances.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state,Omolola Odutola declined to either confirm nor debunk the incident .
When asked to either confirm or debunk the kidnapping incident, Odutola said the police did not have the report .
Attempt to get whether the police was aware of any incident of missing child or not, she confirmed it, but refused to speak further on it .
