Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, has hit back at Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after the Dutchman branded his analysis of the Red Devils attacker Marcus Rashford as ‘stupid analysis’.
Recall that Man United were humbled 3-0 by Liverpool at Old Trafford over the weekend.
A brace from Luis Diaz and a goal from Mohamed Salah gave Arne Slot’s side the victory against United.
Following the game, Ten Hag slammed Shearer’s criticism of Rashford on Match of the Day.
The Man United boss defended the England forward, saying: “Everyone gets criticism from you guys, it doesn’t matter what we are doing, if we are winning or if we are losing. In this case, it was stupid analysis from the pundit.”
Asked about Ten Hag’s comments on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer insisted the manager was simply trying to protect his player.
“In his press conference he said he didn’t agree with the analysis and said it was “stupid”. But look at their performance today then see,” Shearer said.
“I totally get why. He’s trying to protect his player, he couldn’t see anything different, but I think the truth is known at Man United.
“They got absolutely battered, it was like men against boys. They were awful, Liverpool were brilliant.”
