Former England midfielder, Owen Hargreaves, believes Manchester United will not win trophies this season because they signed ‘filler’ players like Joshua Zirkzee during the summer transfer window.
Recall that Zirkzee joined Man United from Bologna for around £36million.
He scored the winner in Man United’s first Premier League game against Fulham on his debut after coming off the bench.
Zirkzee made his first start for the Red Devils against Liverpool last Sunday and failed to score.
However, Hargreaves is not the answer to Manchester United’s goalscoring problems, adding that he’s not going to score up to 40 goals per season.
“I quite like him, he’s not a Haaland killer who’s going to get you 40 goals,” Hargreaves said of Zirkzee on Rio Ferdinand Presents.
“In our team he would have been a good squad player, he would have been the third or fourth guy but if you want to win, you need a guy at the top of the pitch who is ruthless.
“You need a guy who’s a killer, like Ruud [Van Nistelrooy].”
He added, “I think Man United should only sign players they think can win them the Premier League and Champions League, otherwise keep the money.
“But at the moment, United are signing a lot of guys who are like fillers.”
