Abia State chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has condemned the attack on a woman, Mrs Amarachi Lawrence, whose husband, Lawrence Chukwukere, allegedly tried to pluck out her eyes for a suspected ritual.

The women journalists, who made the condemnation through Abia State Chairperson, Josephine Ogwo and Sally Anyaso, Secretary, demanded that the husband of the woman who is now being held for the crime, should not escape prosecution.

They further demanded justice for the landlady of the suspect, Mrs LoveJane Nwaiwu who was also brutalized by the suspect for trying to rescue Mrs Amarachi.

NAWOJ pointed out that giving justice to the attacked women would serve as a deterrent to others who may want to inflict harm on their spouse.

While drumming support for the campaign against Gender-Based Violence and other forms of domestic violence in Abia, they thanked the wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Pricilia Otti for immediately intervening on the plight of the injured victims and for paying their medical bill.

They urged her office to collaborate with the Abia State ministry of women affairs in setting up teams against Gender-Based Violence in the State and in the 17 LGAs to check the rising case of domestic violence.
