UNL: Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker react to coach, Lee Carsley’s refusal to sing England national anthem

Former England internationals, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have defended the Three Lions manager, Lee Carsley over national anthem row.

This was after the coach refused to sing the England national anthem before their game against Ireland in the Uefa Nations League.

Three Lions’ fans were shocked that their new boss did not sing along when the anthem was played and the Englishman has received a lot of bashing for not doing so.

Speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast (via The Metro), Gary Lineker, a former Barcelona star, defended Lee Carsley.

According to him, people like to find problems with everything these days.

“Crikey, they do like to stir things up, don’t they?! I find it bonkers. If someone chooses not to sing it doesn’t matter…” he said.

“I remember some players not singing because they were too shy. I used to sing a bit but not too loud because my voice is terrible.”

Adding his voice to the debate, another former England international, Alan Shearer, also sided with Gary Lineker on the matter, saying, “You’re going to be judged on football results, not whether you sing the national anthem or not.”
