As part of measures to address the rising cases of kidney failure in the country, the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Abuja has inaugurated a steering committee on kidney transplant.

The committee comprising senior medical experts has a top Consultant Nephrologist Dr Ernest Aniede, as the Chairman.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the FMC, Mr Obadiah N.K Gana, in Abuja on Thursday.

The statement said the inauguration of the committee is a proactive move to address the escalating incidents of kidney sickness-related deaths in the Federal Capital Terrritory, FCT, and the country at large.

“While the cost of treating kidney related ailments especially transplants is high, the FMC is adopting measures to address the dearth of expertise in the area.”

The Medical Director of the FMC, Prof. Saad Ahmed, who inaugurated the committee, said that the move was preparatory to the commencement of kidney transplants in the FCT.

Ahmed who addressed Aniede and other members of the committee, charged them to work as a team with full dedication and commitment expected to usher in successful commencement of Kidney transplant procedures in the facility.

The medical director while presenting the committee members their official letters, charged them to give the deserved attention to the assignment.
