Floods have killed no fewer than 15 persons and displaced over 3,000 people between early August and early September in Katsina State.

It was gathered that 21,481 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hajiya Binta Hussain Dagani, made this known to newsmen on Thursday in Katsina.

She said the floods also damaged a total of 32,542 houses across 32 local government areas in the state.

According to her, the areas most severely affected include Dutsinma, Daura, Kaita, Katsina, and Batagarawa LGAs, while others include Funtua, Malumfashi, and Musawa LGAs.

Earlier at the old Katsina Government House, Hajiya Dagani flagged off the distribution of palliatives donated by the Bank of Industry to flood victims in the state.

She disclosed at the ceremony that plans were underway by the state government to provide additional relief measures, such as cash assistance and building materials, to the victims by next week.

Dagani noted that the agency has submitted a comprehensive report to the state government, detailing the statistics of victims, damages, affected areas and casualties for further action.

She explained that emergency support groups, including the Jos-based Health and Development Support Programme (HANDS), are currently mobilizing to offer more assistance to the affected communities in Katsina.
