The Ogun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) successfully held its local government congresses across the state on Saturday, marking a significant step in its preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The party, which has positioned itself as the main opposition in the state, vowed to take over power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

PLATFORM TIMES reports that two weeks prior, the PDP had conducted ward congresses to elect delegates for the local government congresses.

The peaceful and well-attended congresses were closely monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and held under tight security.

In local government areas like Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, and Obafemi, PDP members turned out in large numbers to elect their local executives.

Party faithful were seen queuing behind their preferred candidates, demonstrating a high level of participation and commitment to the party’s grassroots leadership structure.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the local government congresses, Mr. Tachio John, and the State Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Mr. Dada Awoleye, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful nature of the exercise, noting that the party remains unified and focused on its goal.

Speaking after the congress, Tachio highlighted the significance of the party’s cohesion, urging members to continue working together to ensure victory.

“As you can see, this congress is peaceful. If we maintain peace like this, things will continue to improve.

“ Let’s work together so that we can win together,” he said.

Similarly, Awoleye emphasized that the smooth conduct of both the ward and local government congresses demonstrated that the PDP is well-prepared to wrestle power from the APC in 2027.

He praised party members for their orderly behavior, expressing confidence in the party’s prospects. “The congresses show we are ready to take over power.

This is a sign of good things to come. I am not disappointed with what I have seen,” Awoleye added.
