Justice Joy Unwana of the Akwa Ibom High Court, and her driver, who were abducted by gunmen, have been successfully rescued.

Ini Ememobong, the Commissioner for Information in Akwa Ibom state, confirmed the positive development in a statement issued yesterday.

The judge and her driver fell victim to the assailants while returning from a court session.

Tragically, the gunmen also took the life of the police officer assigned to protect Justice Joy Unwana during the violent kidnapping.

Expressing concern for the well-being of the judge and her driver, the state governor conveyed sympathy for the trauma they undoubtedly experienced at the hands of their abductors.

The governor, in solidarity with the victims, has vowed to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act face the full force of the law.

“The governor, specifically, appreciated the Ministry of Internal Security for their strategic coordination and use of local intelligence in the handling of security issues,” stated Commissioner Ini Ememobong, acknowledging the efforts made to secure the safe release of the abducted judge and her driver.

This incident has once again brought attention to the security challenges faced by judicial officers in the region and underscores the need for enhanced measures to protect those who play a crucial role in the administration of justice.
