In a shocking incident last Saturday, three young men from Akama Oghe community fell victim to a brazen kidnapping attempt by gunmen believed to be herders at the Ajalli River in Ezeagu Local Government, Enugu State.
The victims, engaged in a ritualistic sacrifice, were abruptly seized by the armed assailants, leading to a harrowing ordeal.
Fortunately, the narrative took a twist as one of the captives managed a daring escape on Sunday morning, a development that ultimately led to the successful rescue of the remaining victims late Sunday night.
A community leader in Enugu confirmed the events, underscoring the crucial role played by the escapee in facilitating the rescue operation.
In a separate but related incident, operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, serving in the Hawk Tactical Squad, demonstrated exceptional bravery as they rescued travelers who had been kidnapped along Ette Road in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area while en-route to Abuja.
According to Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, the rescue operation was not without its challenges.
The hoodlums, upon detecting the presence of police operatives, initiated a violent confrontation by opening fire.
Undeterred, the gallant and tactful police operatives swiftly retaliated, neutralizing one of the assailants and compelling the others to flee with gunshot injuries.
