The Legislative Council of Abeokuta South Local Government, Ogun State, has announced the lifting of the suspension earlier placed on the enforcement of certain traffic offences, including one-way driving, obstruction, overloading, and traffic light violations.
This development was disclosed by the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Jamiu Ogundairo, following a plenary session held on Monday.
“Today, after plenary, we have lifted the suspension on traffic offences such as one-way, obstruction, overloading, and traffic light violations,” Ogundairo stated.
However, the Council maintained that the suspension on fines related to the non-use of helmets and lack of side mirrors remains in effect.
It would be recalled that the Council had previously directed the local government’s revenue consultant, Necad Nero Nigeria Ltd, to suspend the collection of fines for the said infractions.
In addition, transport unions including ACOMORAN, AMORAN, and ROMO, as well as the consultant, Mr. Nurudeen Olayinka Adenuga, were summoned for deliberations regarding the enforcement of traffic regulations and internally generated revenue (IGR) issues.
The Council urged all road users within the local government to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations, stressing the need for order and safety on the roads.
