The national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has expelled two of its ex-officials in Abia State over alleged anti-union activities.

The national secretary of the union, Isah Gambo, disclosed this in a letter dated July 21, 2023.

Gambo said  the two expelled members are former deputy state president Kenneth Nwasuka, and  former state publicity secretary, Uko Ikechukwu.

The NULGE national secretary had in a recent letter addressed to Governor Alex Otti on the alleged leadership crisis in its Abia Chapter, informed the governor there was no crisis in the union in Abia, although that some complaints were received by the national secretariat from some members in Abia State.

“The complaints were concerning the last state delegates conference held in Aba, which ushered in new State Administrative Council (SAC) members and that it has been referred to the appropriate organ of the union for mediation.

“Your Excellency may also wish to know that Abia State NULGE Executive ably led by Comrade Ikechi Nwaigwe is the only recognized executive of the union in Abia State”, the letter state.

The letter conveying the expulsion of the two union officials read in part, “Following reports of your anti-union activities in Abia State and having confirmed through our investigations, in addition to your failure to exonerate yourselves, I am directed to inform you that the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of July 20, 2023, has approved your expulsion from the Union.

“You are hereby expelled from the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for anti-union activities.

“You are therefore requested to handover all properties of the Union in your possession to the state secretary immediately, failing which the Union will take urgent steps to recover same.”

The letter was copied to Abia State Police Commissioner; State Director, DSS; Abia State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, among others.
