Ogun State’s rapid industrial transformation has been attributed to the deliberate economic reforms and investor-friendly policies of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
The Special Adviser to the Governor and Deputy Director-General of the Ogun State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency (OgunInvest), Ms. Sola Arobieke, stated this during the commissioning of the ₦1.3 billion Monolithic Refractory Plant of African Refractory and Allied Products (ARAP), a subsidiary of African Industries Group (AIG), in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area.
Arobieke described the plant as a landmark achievement in Nigeria’s industrial landscape, stressing that it underscores the strong synergy between the Ogun State Government and the private sector.
“Under His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State Government remains fully committed to supporting investors and manufacturers through sound policies, solid infrastructure, and meaningful partnerships,” she said.
She explained that the new facility — the first of its kind in Nigeria and West Africa — will serve multiple industries including steel, cement, glass, aluminium, and food processing. According to her, the plant will also help reduce Nigeria’s steel import bill while strengthening the nation’s manufacturing base.
“This project is a testament to what is possible when government policies align with private sector innovation. OgunInvest continues to provide seamless facilitation and post-investment support to ensure that investors thrive in Ogun State,” Arobieke added.
Speaking at the event, the Director of ARAP, Mr. Don Terblanche, welcomed dignitaries and guests, reaffirming the company’s readiness to deliver world-class refractory products to meet industrial demand across sectors.
“Our vision is to be a trusted partner in Nigeria’s industrial growth journey. This facility is equipped to produce high-quality refractory materials that will serve local and regional industries,” Terblanche said.
Also addressing the gathering, the Director, Corporate Affairs, AIG, Mr. Taiwo Okeowo, noted that the commissioning of the Ogijo plant represents another bold step in AIG’s long-standing commitment to Nigeria’s industrial advancement.
“African Industries Group has always believed in Nigeria’s potential. This new plant is not just an investment; it is a statement of confidence in Ogun State’s enabling business environment and in the resilience of the Nigerian economy,” Okeowo stated.
Other top management staff of the company, including the Chief Operating Officer of ARAP, Mr. Arindam Gupta, attended the event alongside several industry leaders and government officials.
The establishment of the ₦1.3 billion refractory plant further cements Ogun State’s position as Nigeria’s leading industrial hub, buoyed by the Abiodun administration’s drive for sustainable industrialization, infrastructural renewal, and investor confidence.
