Abuja Electricity Distribution Company Rectifies Wrongful Billing, Implements New Tariffs

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has addressed the issue of wrongful billing in the new tariff rates, attributing it to a system glitch.

The company apologized to affected customers and assured them of rectification.

The Nigerian government recently approved a tariff increment of N225 ($0.15) per kilowatt-hour for Band A electricity consumers, representing those who enjoy electricity supply for 20 hours per day.

This increment was announced by the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Musliu Oseni, during a press briefing in Abuja.

However, some Band A customers experienced wrongful charges while recharging their meters under the new tariff regime.

Additionally, former Band A customers who were downgraded to Band B were charged the new tariffs of N225 per Kilowatt Hour.

In response to the situation, AEDC released a statement apologizing to its customers for the inconvenience caused.

The company acknowledged the system glitch caused by the reclassification of some Band A customers to Band B due to changes in electricity supply hours.

AEDC assured customers that all excess charges would be refunded promptly.

The statement further outlined the company’s commitment to identifying affected customers and ensuring they are charged correctly under the new tariff structure.

AEDC emphasized its dedication to improving power supply to all categories of customers and solicited customers’ understanding and support during this transition period
