In a resounding testament to academic excellence, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) proudly announces that 174 graduating students have achieved First Class honours out of a total of 11,784 graduates from the academic sessions of 2021/2022 and 2022/2023.
The revelation came from the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, during a press conference held on Wednesday in anticipation of the university’s 32nd and 33rd convocation ceremonies.
The convocation, scheduled for January 29-31, 2024, at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Lecture Theatre, will see the conferral of scrolls upon the deserving graduates.
Prof. Agboola, a distinguished Professor of cancer pathology, highlighted that among the outstanding achievers, 76 attained First Class in the 2021/2022 academic session, with an additional 98 achieving this distinction in the 2022/2023 sessions.
Providing a comprehensive breakdown, Prof. Agboola shared that 1,756 and 1,536 secured second class upper divisions in 2021/2022 and 2022/2023, respectively.
He stated that 3,203 and 2,982 students achieved second class lower in the same periods.
He further explained that 884 and 95 students earned third class and pass grades in 2021/2022, while 651 and 51 students received similar grades in 2022/2023.
The Vice Chancellor stated, “a total of 6,141 and 5,653 students will convoke for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions, respectively.”
Recognizing outstanding individual achievements, Prof. Agboola unveiled the overall best graduating students.
For the 2021/2022 academic session, three students, Talabi Azim Ayinde from Basic Medical Sciences (Biochemistry), Ibrahim Damilola, and Alabi Ifeoluwa from Computer Science, shared the accolade with a similar score of 4.86.
He revealed that in the 2022/2023 session, Adegoke Azeezah Adenike from Pharmacology emerged as the overall best graduating student with an impressive grade of 4.90.
In a further demonstration of honor, he said the university will confer honorary degrees upon the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Adewale Ajayi, and the immediate-past Pro-Chancellor, Mrs. Bello Olubosede.
This recognition, he said, underscores their significant contributions to academia and society.
