In a heart-wrenching incident, Access Holdings CEO, Herbert Wigwe, along with his wife and two children, met a tragic end when the helicopter they were traveling in crashed near the border city between Nevada and California on Friday night.

The family had departed Lagos State, Nigeria, on Wednesday with the intent of attending Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas, scheduled for Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium.

The ill-fated chopper, en route to Las Vegas, crashed near Nipton on the edge of the Mojave Desert.

The devastating accident claimed not only the life of Herbert Wigwe but also that of his wife and two children.

Additionally, another passenger on the flight, identified as Bimbo Ogunbanjo, the son of businessman Chris Ogunbanjo, lost his life in the tragic incident.

The absence of Herbert Wigwe and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the Access Bank Lagos Marathon on Saturday marked a somber reminder of the unfortunate event.

Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat represented Governor Sanwo-Olu at the event.

US officials confirmed the crash and disclosed that the helicopter went down late on Friday evening, bringing an unexpected end to what was meant to be a journey filled with excitement and joy for the Wigwe family.

The aviation authorities are conducting investigations to determine the cause of this tragic accident.
