The Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners, Repairers and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Ogun State chapter, on Wednesday inaugurated 28 new executives for the 2025–2030 administration, emphasizing the importance of literacy and inclusion of women in leadership.

At the inauguration ceremony held in Ogun State, the National President of ACOMORAN, Alhaji Samsudeen Apelogun, underscored the need to reposition the association through competent and educated leadership.

He declared that all candidates seeking leadership roles within the union must possess at least an O’Level certificate.

“Whoever wants to contest for any position must have a school certificate. We need to upgrade,” Apelogun said.

“The previous structure of the union was seen as one for touts. It is not too late to improve ourselves.”

In a progressive move towards gender inclusion, the president revealed that five women were included in the new executive council, marking a shift from male-dominated leadership to a more inclusive structure.

He noted that women now hold leadership positions at the national level as well.

Despite the emphasis on education, Apelogun announced a constitutional amendment that permits members without the O’Level certificate to hold certain non-leadership roles.

“The constitution is made for humans; we can adjust it. But without O’Level, you still cannot hold any leadership position in the association,” he said.

Apelogun also lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing the removal of fuel subsidy as a “bold and commendable” decision that demonstrates empathy for the masses.

In his remarks, the newly re-elected State Chairman of ACOMORAN, Mr. Showunmi Kayode, expressed gratitude to the national leadership for its support and mentorship.

“His [Apelogun’s] tutelage, guidance, and unwavering support have been the cornerstone of our accomplishments,” he said.

He also acknowledged the cordial relationship between the association and the Ogun State Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, noting that it has been mutually beneficial.

Also present at the event was Hon. Igbalaye Wasiu Ayodele, member representing Abeokuta South State Constituency II, who charged ACOMORAN members to remain law-abiding and use the roads responsibly.

The inauguration highlighted ACOMORAN’s renewed commitment to professionalism, inclusivity, and leadership development as it seeks to redefine the role of tricycle and motorcycle operators in Ogun State and beyond.
