The Adamawa State Executive Council, SEC, has approved N19.7 billion to rebuild a major shopping centre in the capital city, Yola.

The Jimeta Modern Shoping Complex was demolished last month by the government to yield some grounds to a flyover being built around it and to come up with an even more modern shopping centre.

The State Executive Council which met Wednesday at the Government House, Yola, decided on the N19.7 billion as amount needed to put up a new shopping centre, according to the state Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr Iliya James who addressed newsmen after the SEC meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

The commissioner said the rebuilding project was awarded to three contractors and will be completed within 20 months.

The Commissioner of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Dr Ishaya Dabari who directly handles all matters to do with the project, said the new market will have a fire service unit, a police station, a car park, an administrative block, among facilities.

Another cabinet member, the Commissioner of Environment, Sadiq Mohammed, speaking on the current flood ravaging communities in the state, urged people along flood-prone areas to move to safer places.
