In a significant development, the Adamawa State Police Command has taken swift action by apprehending two young men involved in the theft of armored cables within the capital city of Yola.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the suspects were nabbed for allegedly vandalizing a power line and stealing armored cables supplying electricity to a water treatment plant in Boronji, a residential community near the Government House, Yola.
A statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, named the suspects as Yohanna Suleiman, 25, and Emmanuel Joseph, 17.
The statement said the two were arrested by police operatives attached to Dougirei Divisional Police Headquarters, Jimeta.
The suspects are residents of Boronji.
Nguroje, in the police statement released Monday afternoon, said operatives got to the suspects following a distress call from the manager of the water plant.
He said: “The suspects conspired and vandalized armoured cables connecting light to the treatment plant, resulting in the shutdown of water supply.
“Investigation so far revealed that the suspects are collaborating with some yet-to-be-arrested receivers who benefit even more from the services of the water treatment plant.”
The police spokesman said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, warned those receiving such items to desist henceforth or prepare for the end result.
He said the CP assured that the receivers of the cables in this particular case would be traced and arrested.
