The Federal Capital Territory chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has nullified the purported suspension of the senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, and sanctioned three ward executives allegedly involved in the controversial move.
The party leadership announced the suspension of the Wuse Ward Chairman, Kanayo Chukwu, alongside two other executives, Amanda Pam and Omale Suleiman, for allegedly spearheading what it described as an unconstitutional attempt to suspend the senator.
Addressing journalists and party members in Abuja on Sunday, a member of the party’s National Working Committee, Emmanuel Destiny, said the action taken by the ward officials violated the party’s constitution and established procedures.
He maintained that the alleged suspension lacked legitimacy because due process was not followed and no formal complaint had been submitted against the senator to the national leadership.
According to him, the party would not tolerate what he described as acts capable of undermining its internal structure.
“The party is supreme to every individual. As of now, the national leadership has not received any written complaint or petition against Senator Kingibe,” Destiny said.
“You cannot wake up one morning and suspend a serving senator without formally documenting your grievances. Such action is null and void.”
He further warned that the national leadership would take disciplinary action against those responsible for the development.
“We are fully present to say no to such shenanigans and the misconduct of individuals claiming authority they do not possess,” he added.
Also speaking, the party’s Deputy National Auditor, Princess Nneka Nneboh, said the leadership was compelled to intervene after those involved ignored earlier advice to follow laid-down procedures.
“It is no longer useful to keep quiet after asking them to do the right thing. Whatever decision we take here today stands. It is time to call a spade a spade,” she said.
Similarly, the FCT Secretary of the party, John Hyginus, criticised what he described as administrative lapses and disregard for the party’s constitution.
He said ward and area council chairmen within the FCT chapter had already passed a vote of no confidence in the three officials who initiated the suspension.
The meeting held at the ADC FCT secretariat in Abuja was attended by several party leaders, including the FCT Chairman, Clement Ihigiato, and the Abuja Municipal Area Council chairman of the party, Emeka Nnamani, among others.
The controversy erupted earlier in the week when officials of the party’s Wuse Ward in the Abuja announced the suspension of Kingibe over allegations of anti-party activities, insubordination and breach of party rules.
The ward officials also accused the senator of withholding funds meant for the party’s campaigns during the recent area council elections in the territory.
However, the national leadership of the ADC swiftly distanced itself from the move, insisting that the action was not recognised by the party.
In an earlier statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, urged the public and the media to disregard the report of Kingibe’s suspension, describing it as false and misleading.
The motion seeking the suspension of the three ward executives was moved by an ADC chieftain from Wuse Ward, Danlami Zuru, and seconded by Samuel Dimgba, another party official.
